Among the popular bird stands and parrot stands available on the market are those made of different types of plastic.  Perhaps the most common are the PVC bird stands constructed of white plastic water pipe.  The material is chew proof for most all small birds and large parrots alike and the stands are easy to clean.  To offer foot grip, some manufacturers will use fluted PVC pipe for the perch area while others will add a surface texture using a wire wheel brush or large grit sand paper.  Alternative methods of adding grip include wrapping the perch area with Vet Wrap, jute twine, small diameter sisal rope, rubberize anti-slip tape found in hardware stores or covering the perch with food grade epoxy and rolling it in fine grit sand. 

A few larger manufacturers offer molded plastic bird stands made from materials like polypropylene.  These stands and parrot play gyms will typically include wheels and a catch tray for droppings and other debris.  Acrylic stands are available but are not as common.  These custom bird stands will have their own unique look that sets them apart.  For many, the benefits of owning a PVC bird stand or plastic parrot play gym include NOT being concerned about zinc levels in power coated metal paint, rust issues caused by trapped water or chewed up wood to replace.
